👑 Princess Peach
Princess Peach is the ruling princess of Mushroom Kingdom, and the most iconic female character in the Super Mario Bros franchise.
1. The Classic “Damsel in Distress” Archetype
Throughout Nintendo’s formative history, the biggest recurring scenario for Peach has been the “maiden in distress.” In every game installment, the dragon/turtle Bowser kidnaps her, and Mario must overcome countless difficulties, dodging every Hitbox trap to rescue her. This archetype defined a persistent template for over 30 years that countless games in the same genre followed.
2. The Modern Evolution
To avoid fading into irrelevance, Nintendo has increasingly given Peach more agency and power:
- She became a Playable Character with her own distinct abilities (floating through the air).
- She received her own standalone games where she takes up the hero’s mantle herself (e.g., Princess Peach: Showtime! on Switch).
